DESIGN CONCEPT
My aim is to create a space that can be easily experienced by visitors. To enable this, i want to incorporate elevated access ways that run from the upper site all the way to the lower site where the EAF would be located. This long extended walk to get to the building, is al part of the idea where visitors not only connect with few places on the site but have a feel of the whole. They are made curious to know where this accessway takes them. Once they reach the lower site, there is an alternate accessway that runs through tunnel 3 that allows people to connect to the history of the site and the importance of retaining the coal loader. My idea is to set a differnt ambeince within the tunnel by making visitors walk through the tunnel and experience the art within the chambers on a height. These artworks will run through the chambers telling the viewers a story of the site history.I would like to retain the wharf as it is cause it as an important aspect of the history. It defines the site by giving it a rusted feel which will now be contrasted with more modern element - accessway.
PRECEDENTS:

Open air festival arena, Austria- adapting the idea of the elevated accessways running through the site.

MONA, Australia - looking at ways to access the tunnel

DESIGN PROCESS

concept of having elevated access ways through the site

Planing of how to integrate the access way with the building so that they have a strong correlation- playing with differnt forms.

Placing the building on the coal loader and linking it with the accessways- i want the building to feel like a continuation of the accessway-long elongated space that finally leads to an open ampitheatre.

Starting to think about the activities inside the tunnel and the art chambers- how do people access the tunnel?...what happns within the chambers?

extending the elevated accessway through tunnel3- visitors view the artworks within the chambers from a height- the artworks tell a story of the site history.
